Four out of five people worldwide feel connected to a religious or spiritual tradition. Many of them work as volunteers to strengthen social cohesion and sustainable development. Religious organisations have strong networks and a lot of experience. Many of them are committed to peace, environmental protection, health and education as well as to fighting poverty and climate change. They often provide basic services and mediate conflicts when government services reach their limits.
In many countries, people place great trust in religious representatives. They are indispensable for building and maintaining functioning communities. Therefore, multilateral cooperation is becoming ever more important: International Partnership on Religion and Sustainable Development, in short PaRD, is the name of the global alliance that is substantially supported by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development.
